A Viable Market for the Circular Economy
Philadelphia’s circular enterprises need a transformed market and economy in order to thrive.
At Circular Philadelphia, we truly believe that a circular enterprise is the most beneficial for consumers and our planet. But any major change needs investment, and Philadelphia’s enterprises can’t do it alone. They need the right market conditions, technical support, robust infrastructure and a network to achieve an economy of scale to make their products viable. And they need producers whose products pollute to bear the real cost of their pollution.
FOCUS AREAS
Built Environment
We work with the building trades, construction and demolition recyclers and building materials wholesalers to achieve a circular system that becomes ever more competitive as extracted raw materials cost more.
Food Systems
We work with food producers, packagers, restaurants and consumers to ensure that food packaging does not contribute to our trash crisis and no food is wasted in a city with a 16% food insecurity rate.
Textiles
We work with fashion designers, makers and retail stores to develop new ways of manufacturing and selling clothes and other textiles that optimize textile supply chains, minimize production waste and reduce excess inventory.
Vacant Land
To support the work that we’re doing in our three market focus areas, we are working on activating vacant land in Philadelphia for temporary use to support our market transformation work. We view the city’s vacant lots as an opportunity to increase circularity throughout Philadelphia while building businesses.
As Circular Philadelphia grows, we intend to expand our focus into other markets in need of transformation. If you’re operating in a market sector different from the ones listed above and want to explore how Circular Philadelphia can help support a transition to a circular economy, please contact us to start a conversation.
