Re:Dish focuses on the reduction of waste by offering the infrastructure and software to enable reuse at scale. The Re:Dish Reusable Dishware program provides resuable cups/plates/dishware to replace single-use disposable packaging used in institutional food operations, plus the service to collect, wash, sanitize, redeliver and repeat every day. Re:Dish’s Washing-as-a-Service provides the same service for third party reusables.

Why did you become a member?

Re:Dish’s singular mission is to enable reuse at scale to ensure a more sustainable future for generations to come. However, we know that Re:Dish can’t solve this tremendous challenge alone, and that our core mission is one that is shared by many. Re:Dish is excited to join Circular Philadelphia to be a part of, collaborate with, and learn from the engaged collective of individuals and companies that are actively tackling the challenges in Philadelphia to drive meaningful change.

What does a circular economy mean to your organization?

At Re:Dish, we believe the circular economy is the most impactful way forward to solving the growing waste crisis. Rather than figuring out more environmentally friendly ways of dealing with the waste created in the current linear economy, we fundamentally need to curb the amount of waste that is produced in the first place. Re:Dish’s entire business model is to make reuse solutions accessible and turnkey so that reuse becomes the norm rather than the exception.

How is your organization practicing circularity?

Re:Dish has built the warewashing infrastructure and reverse logistics to facilitate the reuse of items, particularly food packing wares. We do this with an emphasis on data, ensuring items can be individually tracked, managed, and measured in terms of environmental impact on a client-specific level. In addition to the services we provide, our facility is also on track to receive TRUE Zero Waste Certification in the coming months.

How can others advance the circular economy?

So many ways! Yet it starts with intentionality. What products do you buy? What packaging do you discard? What behaviors are you modeling and inspiring for others? As an individual, it may feel like your contribution is just a drop in the bucket, however, small changes in aggregate create tidal waves.
